As I had been thinking about integrating particles and dynamics in this very scene,
I went ahead and gave it a shot. Well, the results were pretty decent but definitely NOT what I needed/wanted (I guess my needs and wants agree and converge at this point....I'm sure as hell surprised though.)
The issue is I'm not able to get that swirling motion of the smoke that should be rising from the crater.
Also the movement of the smoke is very blobby at some frames, as if it were converted into semi-solid masses of smokey gases by the extreme air pressure. So I need to probably iron out these kinks. Also the colour looks off from the Background plate. (I intend to take care of it in Compositing though.)
I have made a guess about the solution though. I believe I should up the resolution of the particle system and reduce the size of the metaballs. Also trying to tinker with Interact and Attractor nodes to try and give the smoke a bit wispy behaviour.
I know this could have been very easily achievable using voxel fluids but I just chose to go ahead with the particle sim for this one. (Someday I had to go this way, so better prepare for it now!)
Just posting the first test (first and only test till now!)
Incidentally my exams are starting from 8th April and I have not yet started preparing for it.
Yes I intend to say 'I might not be able to update it as regularly, i.e. on a daily basis.'
PS: As much as it breaks my heart to do anything other than some RnD and experimentation in Houdini, Finishing my graduation is also very Important for me. This is what I had been waiting for all these three years and now I'm gonna be a graduate. Woooohooooo!!
